Below you'll find a taste of all the special celebrations we have had so far in Grange NS this year.
This year the Student Council had a wonderful idea on how best to celebrate World Book Day. We had a 'Cosy Up & Read' day. All the children were invited to bring in a cushion, or a favourite teddy along with their favourite book. The whole school then took the time to 'Cosy Up & Read' during the day - there was a wonderful atmosphere!
6th Class had a wonderful trip to UCC on Friday 8th March. They had a tour of the University, a graduation ceremony and then took part in a workshop in the Glucksman Art Gallery where they created a centrepiece for a school children's art display that will be in the gallery for St. Patrick's Weekend. They had a wonderful day and were a credit to Grange NS.
Frank O Flynn, county mayor, invited the children of 1st & 2nd class to come to County Hall and turn on the lights on their beautiful Christmas tree. The children and staff were so excited, and really thoroughly enjoyed the day. Cllr O Flynn is a past pupil of Grange NS and was delighted to be able to invite the children and looked after them all so well. There was even a special greeting for the birthday boy on the day, Rory Noonan! Thanks so much to Cllr O Flynn and all his team for the wonderful day the children and the staff had. They're still talking about it!
We had such a special day in Grange NS showing off all the hard work that our 5th and 6th class children had put into their Intel Mini Scientist projects. The children's curiosity, creativity and teamwork shone through each and every group project. Well done to you all!
On Friday morning, we gathered in the school hall for assembly. During assembly, we wished all those whose birthdays took place in October a happy birthday. We introduced our team of Wellness Warriors for this school year. We also took the time to celebrate all the wonderful things that our children have achieved in recent weeks. There were more medals and trophies than we've ever seen in one room! There were trophies for dancing, medals and certificates for sport, and one of our rising stars told us she's gotten a speaking part in the Christmas Panto - what a talented bunch we have!
Our 5th & 6th class children had the most wonderful day yesterday - the boys team got into the ScÃth na Scol Final! The atmosphere in Grange NS was electric in the morning as we sent them on their way. The boys played their hearts out, and the girls lost their voices cheering them on! While we weren't successful in beating Bishop Murphy's amazing team - our children came back to a heroes' welcome! Congratulations to Bishop Murphy on their victory, and compliments to all players on their wonderful sportsmanship. A sincere and heartfelt thanks also to Miss Murray, Mrs Kielthy, Miss Shealy and Tony Hartnett who prepared the children so well and supported them every step of the way. Also a sincere thanks to all of the parents that were so supportive and encouraging and helpful at every step of the way. That plaque was a team effort!
Our wonderful collection of gift boxes for less fortunate children was collected today from Grange NS and we were so proud to send off 73 boxes all brimming with gifts. Thank you all for your generosity!
We are so excited to meet you all here in Grange NS. It has been a pleasure getting to know you all, and in a few short weeks you have become such a central part of our school community. Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh siad!
We are getting ready to say goodbye to our wonderful sixth class pupils, and they are looking forward to their graduation ceremony on Monday 19th June. It's so bittersweet for us all here in Grange NS - we will miss their energy, laughter and fun-loving spirit so much. However, we are so proud of the hard-working, kind, helpful and confident people that they have become. We wish them all the very best in the future and look forward to hearing all about their adventures as they grow. Don't forget us as you go off to move mountains!
This year, pupils from Junior Infants up to Second Class went to Cuskinny in Cobh. They had a great day of adventuring!
This year's senior school tour was to West Cork Secret - the children had the best day! There was mud, sunshine and all the pizza they could eat. A perfect recipe for memories made.
We had an extremely successful cake sale in aid of Concern Worldwide's Earthquake Disaster Fund. The school community raised a whopping 1400 Euro for the appeal - and we all enjoyed it immensely. Thanks so much to all of you who contributed and also to the wonderful 6th class for all their hard work on the cake stalls that day.
We had such an exciting day on Thursday, 2nd February. A huge thank you to Caroline Casey from Cork County Council, our school warden Catherine Magnier, our local Fire Service and our local GardaÃ. The children had a day that I don't think they'll forget in a hurry!
