Support & Care

Our dedicated special educational needs (SEN) team is made up of Ms. Sinéad Griffin (Principal & SET), Ms. Lisa Dillane (Assistant Principal II & SET), and our two SNAs Bernadette Hunter and Melanie Hayes (Rose Barry). It is our goal and purpose to provide for the extra learning and care needs for all pupils in the school.

We employ a wide range of supports to all classes including team teaching, station teaching, small group and individual teaching support in class and in our resource rooms. Our SNAs provide a wide range of supports also, again in classrooms and also in our school hall and our spacious outdoor areas.

Our SEN team is essential to the inclusion of all children into our school environment. The aim is to provide for all children's individual learning and care needs to best allow them to reach their potential. We work very closely with class teachers, the children and their parents to tailor our supports most effectively. We examine all school standardised tests, and complete further diagnostic testing where appropriate to inform our planning for these extra supports.

We also liaise with outside agencies for guidance and support such as NEPS (National Educational Psychology Service), NCSE (National Council for Special Education), PDST (Professional Development Service for Teachers) and other relevant professionals. Please refer to our Special Educational Needs Policy for further information. This policy is available on our Documents and Downloads page for you to view.

Exciting news!

We are delighted to announce that we are opening our first special class for children with a diagnosis of ASD in August 2024. This class will offer children with ASD a high support environment within our school that they can access throughout the day to best meet their needs. The class will have a maximum of six pupils, with one teacher and two SNAs working in the class. The children that will have a place in this class will also have a corresponding place in a mainstream class that they will integrate into at times and for topics that best suit their educational, social and emotional needs. We are so looking forward
to starting this journey!
